Tehachapi – Cleaner Air
Project
The
Tehachapi plant, located 100 miles north of Los Angeles,
is in an environmentally sensitive area. Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) are
the inevitable by-products of cement manufacture. The Tehachapi
plant uses a staged combustion process to control NOx emissions.
Staged combustion reduces NOx by gradually oxidizing fuel and by
destroying NOx further down the manufacturing chain. The plant has
been fitted with a Technip-CLE ‘MINOX’ precalciner, which creates
a ‘reducing zone’ whereby NOx formed by fuel is suppressed and NOx
formed in the kiln is destroyed.
